After attaining the prestigious rank of two green stripes in 1973 while training under O’Sensei Ngo Dong at the University of Florida, Sensei Joe Shacter took a 30-year hiatus to obtain a law degree, become an attorney, get married and have a family. In 2003, when his older daughter told him she wanted to train in martial arts, after an aborted Tae Kwon Do attempt, Sensei Joe dragged himself off the sofa and began training with both of his daughters at the then Osprey Dojo in Jacksonville. He continued working out at World Headquarters before helping open Black Talon Dojo on the campus of the University of North Florida. Having moved from Jacksonville to South Florida in 2020, Sensei Joe was honored to join Sensei Howard Feldman at Rising Phoenix Dojo. His primary instructors have been Sensei Mark Villanueva, Master Kirk Farber, Master Jessica Ngo, and Master Thu Ngo.
